Okupio is committed to making our platform accessible to everyone, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or high-contrast display settings.

Our Standard
Targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across all public-facing pages of the Okupio platform, including event landing pages, registration forms, check-in pages, live Q&A boards, and feedback surveys.
WCAG 2.1 AA is the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. It is the level required by UK public sector organisations under the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, and is widely considered best practice for all digital services.
What We Have Built
Keyboard Navigation
All interactive elements are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone. Focus indicators are clearly visible on all focusable elements.
Colour Contrast
Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). A high-contrast mode is available on event pages.
Screen Reader Support
All images include descriptive alternative text. Form fields have associated labels. Error messages are announced automatically via ARIA live regions.
Semantic HTML
Pages are built with semantic HTML5 elements (headings, landmarks, lists) so assistive technology can understand page structure.
High Contrast Mode
Organisations can enable a high-contrast black-and-white mode for their public event pages, giving visitors with visual impairments a clearer experience.
Known Limitations
We are continuously working to improve accessibility. Some areas we are actively working on include:
- •Rich text email editors may have limited screen reader compatibility in some browsers. We are evaluating alternative approaches.
- •Drag-and-drop interfaces (such as the seating plan editor) include keyboard-accessible alternatives for all actions.
- •Some third-party embedded content (e.g. maps) may not fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. We use text-based alternatives wherever possible.
Report an Accessibility Issue
If you encounter any accessibility barrier on Okupio — whether it's something you cannot use with a screen reader, a form that can't be completed by keyboard, or anything else — we want to hear about it. We take all accessibility reports seriously and aim to respond within 5 working days.

Enforcement Procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations'). If you're not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the EASS.
